Located in Southern Kyrgyzstan, Sary-Mogol is famous for providing the best views of the magnificent Peak Lenin, which stands at 7,134 meters above sea-level! Sary-Mogol is a small village surrounded by towering snow-capped mountains in the distance, located at 3,200 meters above sea-level. In Sary-Mogol village, you will be greeted by friendly locals. On Thursday mornings, you can see the village come to life with the weekly outdoor market and exciting animal market. From the village, you can embark on exciting hiking or horse-trekking excursions into the snow-capped Alay mountains and beautiful high-altitude alpine lakes. For all excursions, we offer knowledgeable and experienced English speaking guides.
What to do in Sary-Mogol:
Hiking: We offer excellent day and multi-day hikes, the most beautiful and popular being to the best view of Peak Lenin, and Besh-Kul (5 lakes). Longer treks can be customized according to your needs.
Horse Trekking: We offer various horse treks around the Alay region, with experienced guides who specialize in horse-riding. No horse-riding experience is necessary to enjoy this traditional mode of transportation of Kyrgyzstan.
Take part in the annual National Yak and Horse Games Festival, every July, and experience traditional Kyrgyz culture.
Live like a nomad in yurts or shepherd homestays: Evenings can be pleasantly passed in warm yurts along the shore of Tulpor-Kul (lake), with only bright stars lighting up the night sky, the perfect end to a day trekking in the mountains. Overnight in a shepherd’s house in the countryside is the perfect way to experience first-hand the local lifestyle.
How to get to Sary-Mogol
From Osh city, there is a daily Marshutka (mini-bus) which arrives in the evening to Sary-Mogol village, directly outside the CBT office. A more flexible option is to take a shared taxi or arrange a private taxi from Osh city. CBT Sary-Mogol can help you arrange a private taxi.
